About the Founder

Kyle Nelson graduated from Hinsdale South High School in Darien, IL in 1999 where he participated in golf, basketball, and baseball.  After high school, he attended Valparaiso University to pursue his Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education, Secondary Education, Coaching and Mathematics Education while pitching on Valpo's baseball team.

 

 

After graduation, he accepted a job at University High School in Urbana, Illinois as their head baseball coach.   After a one year stay in Urbana, he took a job as a Math and Health teacher, and assistant baseball coach at Burlington Central High School in Burlington, IL.  One year later, Kyle was named head baseball coach and has held that position ever since.   He is currently an Algebra and Statistics teacher in Central's Math Department.

In 2008, Kyle completed a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Concordia University in Chicago, IL.  Later that year he began his second Master's program in Coaching Education at Ohio University where he learned from some of the nationwide leaders in coaching education.  He earned his second Master's Degree in 2010.  It was during his time at Ohio University that he developed a true passion for the pedagogy of coaching and recognized the need for and benefits of a comprehensive coach training program.

 

 

Kyle began development of the Cornerstone Coaching Academy in 2011 and launched the Academy in 2012.
