I found this extremely enlightening. My 15 year old could be the poster child for this player. Works hard, has good mechanics as a hitter, but hits below his potential in games. I think experience has a lot to do with it. As a pitcher he does very well. And pitching allows a player to get a lot of experience quickly. They pitch 3 innings and essentially get to throw 50 pitches and face 10-15 batters. A hitter has to play many games to accumulate this kind of experience, even longer for the 9 hitter.
Being able to recreate game situations in practice sounds like the perfect answer. This would be a great video for ‘paid-for’ hitting coaches to see. Many of them go through a routine of tee work, soft-toss, live bp, but seldom work the game situation.
